5 Signs Your AC Needs Repair Before a Florida Summer

Wiring and capacitor inside the condenser panel

In Tampa Bay, your air conditioner works almost all year, and summer is when a weak system finally gives out. Catching the warning signs in spring or fall means a planned repair instead of a hot night waiting for a technician. Here are the five signs we see most often on service calls around Tampa.

1. The air from the vents isn’t cold

If the system runs but the air coming out feels cool instead of cold, something is limiting its ability to remove heat. The most common causes are a dirty filter, a dirty outdoor condenser coil, low refrigerant from a leak, or a failing part such as a capacitor. A filter is an easy fix you can do yourself. The others need a technician with gauges and meters to find the real cause.

2. The system runs all day and the house never cools down

A healthy system cycles on and off. One that runs nonstop on a normal day is either undersized, low on refrigerant or losing efficiency to dirt and worn parts. You’ll usually see it on your power bill before you feel it in the house.

3. Water around the indoor unit

Your AC pulls a lot of water out of humid Florida air, and that water drains away through the condensate line. When the drain clogs, water backs up into the pan and can overflow onto the floor or ceiling. A yearly drain cleaning prevents most of these calls, and it’s included in every tune-up.

4. New noises: buzzing, clicking or grinding

A buzz at the outdoor unit often points to an electrical part such as a contactor or capacitor. Grinding or squealing can mean a motor bearing is wearing out. These parts are cheaper to replace before they fail completely and take other parts with them.

5. Short cycling: on, off, on again

If the system turns on and off every few minutes, it isn’t running long enough to cool the house or remove humidity. Thermostat problems, a frozen coil or an oversized system can all cause it.

What to do next

Change the filter and make sure the outdoor unit isn’t blocked by plants. If the problem stays, book an AC repair visit.

Your technician gives you a flat price before any work starts, and most repairs are finished on the first visit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I change my AC filter in Florida?

Check it every month during summer and change it when it looks dirty. Homes with pets or construction dust need changes more often.

Is a small water leak at the indoor unit an emergency?

Not usually, but turn the system off and call for service soon. A clogged drain can overflow and damage floors or ceilings.

Can you fix my AC the same day?

Most of the time, yes. Our trucks carry replacement parts, so most repairs are finished on the first visit.

Do you repair every brand?

Yes. We service and repair every major brand of central AC, heat pump, mini-split and package unit.
